Assessment of solid waste management in Ota, Ogun State, Nigeria

The rapid rate of population growth and urbanization has impacted the management municipal solid wastes (MSW) is increasingly becoming a major concern in many cities developing countries. Insufficient area coverage for collection, processing system, unsuitable disposal all appear to be causal factors. This paper discussed current situation waste Ota municipality as well challenges associated problems. Structured questionnaires, interviews on-site observations were used data generation, subsequently analyzed using descriptive statistics. Results indicated that 28.6% respondents incinerate their wastes, while 27.6% dispose theirs public bins. About 11.4% deposit by road side, 6.4% dump drainages water bodies. Most which would impact negatively on ozone layer. also 54.3% have disposed regularly, 66% do not sort make them difficult manage. city's single site was visited order better understanding existing measures place.
